Hey Jamie,

Here is my desk crit for your project.

- Frame your text and graphics to draw the users eye into your interaction. You could either put the graphics in boxes, or create a box around the entire page.

- Add directions telling your learners to click on the images.

- I recommend that onClick or onRollover, that the name of the part and maybe the pronunciation be displayed on the screen and not just as an alt tag, which is very small and hard to read. Since this is a key part of what you want them to learn you want to emphasize the parts names more.

- For the hot potatoes game, you may want to import the graphics without the white background, or add a box around the graphic to frame it so that the color is not so strikingly different from the background.

You are off to a good start. Good luck!

I like your project very much. The color scheme is
nice and simple (which is not a bad thing!) and
the content seems well organized.

Just a note:
on page
http://www.arches.uga.edu/%7Ejamieg/Desktop/6190/intro.htm

Las partes del cuerpo
I felt like I should be able to click on the
images... or maybe some text above the images to
explain that they are examples(?)

by the way, a neat little trick to give info to
accompanying an image with a mouse rollover is to
add a title to image properties. I believe you can
do that in dreamweaver somehow but to do with the
code, you just use the title tag... like so...
With your ears image...

<img
src="../../My%20Documents/My%20Pictures/orejas.gif"
alt="las orejas" title ="ears" width="229"
height="196">

anyhow, just a thought... it might be a way to
give 'hints' or answers without a whole lot of work.
I love the quizzes. Very well done.

Hi Jamie,

Here are my deskcrits:

1. For the title of your page you need to make it more descriptive of your website. Also you need to state on the top of your page what your website is about and make a table of contents, links or anchors in a navigation format so the user can navigate throughout your site without having to scrolldown.

2. You need to include a text caption (in addition to the Alt tag) of your beach image and make it relevant to your content. I would put all my content inside of a table instead of having everything floating on the page.

3. I really like your assessment exercises but I am not sure how to give you feedback on those since I do not speak Spanish.

4. For links going to outside sites, I would have them open in a new window. Using the TARGET: _blank option.

5. I am not sure why you are using this name for your page: bat.index.htm . I would put it in a new folder and name it the file index.html

Hope these help and let me know if you need help with anything.

Thanks.
Saif

Costa Rican Sounds doesn't line up quite right, it's not clear that you can click on UGA photos to go to links - you might add some text to take care of that.
Other than that I might put some of the info on different pages rather than having to scroll down to see it and add/or some buttons for navigation. You could put in some named anchors at the top of the page to go directly to different parts.
I love the instructional part of it!

Jamie,

Your site looks great. Here are some quick suggestions:

1) Add some anchors to the home page so that as people
scroll down the page, they can return to the top by simply
clicking a link.

2) Rather than only using alternative text to tell the
viewer where each UGA link on the home page will take them,
include text on the page that specifies where each image is
linked or make each image a rollover image that shows
graphically where clicking the image will take the viewer.

3) Do you have another picture of Battlefield Elementary for
the home page that shows the actual school?

I love your pruebas which can be played like games and the
option in the monster game that allows the player to view
each question one by one or all at once. Good work!

See you soon,

Collin

Jamie,

I like the look of your website. I think that it is great to let the parents know what the students are doing in your class. The one thing I noticed on the homepage is that you created a link to the next unit that the students will be studying, but maybe you should describe it in English. I wouldn’t have known what I was going to be looking at if I had not read your design journal. Once I entered the link I really liked the drag and drop games. I could not get the regresar al incinio link to open. I also thought that when you enter the "Las partes del cuerpo" link that maybe you could include a homepage button to get you back to the introduction. So far your website looks very nice. I am impressed that with what the 5th graders are learning.
I hope this helps. Kristen Sabo

Hi Jamie,

I love your project idea. Here are my thoughts.

1) Put nabigation buttons at the top. This will help users
explore this site.

2) Put small e-mail icon next to Sra. González.

3) It would be nice if link pages open in another window.

4) Put Home or Back button in game pages.

I'm looking forward to seeing your final outcome. Good luck
with your project!!!

Best regards,
Sunjung Lee

Jamie,

The quizzes were fun! I liked the progression of topics and
various ways to check for understanding, although some of the
animal pictures may have been misleading, after all compared
to a human, the nose on a gorilla may look quite large!

The black text/blue background on front page:
http://www.arches.uga.edu/%7Ejamieg/bat.index.htm and Las
partes del cuerpo pages is difficult to read. Perhaps a
different blue would help, or a different font color. When
links are clicked, they turn purple which makes them even
more difficult to read.

The filename (bat.index.htm) may confuse. I do realize (after
a doubletake) that the school’s name had something to do with
your choice of filename. Also, you can probably change the
published link for the web site to:
http://www.arches.uga.edu/%7Ejamieg/bat.index.htm#cuerpo and
that leads the user/learner directly to that section. When
the link you provide popped up with the Battlefield
Elementary page, I thought the link was incorrect.

The first quiz page opens in the existing web page, the other
two quizzes open in blank pages. Did you purpose that? If so,
the navigation scheme is not obvious.

On the quiz pages, the rectangles in the bars at the top and
bottom of the pages are dead links. Seems like this might be
a good way for the learner to progress from one quiz to the
next without having to return to the main page. The spacers
between those top and bottom rectangles vary from quiz to
quiz and distract. The design might do better to focus the
attention on the quiz materials than wonder if one is missing
some subtle clue in the design.

Overall, I thought this a cool way to learn some Spanish! Let
me know if I need to clarify. Monica

Hi, Jamie:
I just visited your website. It looks nice and clean.

But, I have some problems when I use the website:
1. You mix Spanish and English together. It makes me very confused. I can't
read Spanish, so I can't understand those titles in Spanish. Maybe you could
put titles in Spanish and English together to help people who can't read
Spanish.
2. After I click the links on the top of the homepage, I just go to
different places on the homepage and feel difficult to go back to the top.
Maybe you could put a back button at the end of each section to help people
to go back to the top.
3. Please give a hint for the link of "Sra. González". You put the link on
the page, so it looks like a link to a personal page. Maybe put "email to:"
in front of the "Sra. González", then people know what 's the function of
the link.
4. Please make sure that open a new window for a new page or not. Most of
your links will pop-up a new window; however, some of the pages are your
work. So, you don't need to open a new window for your work. Too much
windows will make users confused. On the other hand, you have to open a new
window for the web-page which is not created by you, e.g. the weather.com.

Hope this is helpful.

Good luck to your project!

Hello, Jamie

You had a good job in this project.

My suggestions follow:

1) You put the UGA three links on the bottom of webpage. I
think it is useful links, but if you write or explain what
the links are, people can choose the right button to visit
other websites without difficulty.

2) You used the same pictures to connect Studio website and
Romance Language website. If you can put different pictures
or change the color, it will be great.

3) I think if you can put some pictures or icons to explain
website which you connected to link, it will be more
attractive.

4) In "Noticias!" part, I think you can give more
a "cellpad" or a "cellspace". Contents looks tight in the
box.

I hope these suggestions help your development.
Have a good LUCK TO YOU!

Best Regards,

Jung Eun Shim
